Sodium acetate is the trihydrate sodium salt of acetic acid, which is used as a source of sodium ions in solutions for dialysis and as a systemic and urinary alkalizer, diuretic, and expectorant.
Sodium acetate anhydrous is used as an electrolyte replenisher in isosmotic solution for parenteral replacement of acute losses of extracellular fluid without disturbing normal electrolyte balance.
Sodium sulfate decahydrate is a hydrate. It has a role as a cathartic. Agents that are used to stimulate evacuation of the bowels.
